The action takes place in what is supposed to be a late Victorian living room. The stage of the Bristol Old Vic is quite large and tall, so one of my main concerns here was to give the right scale for what the play required. The colours were also those of the theatre, which required the wallpaper to be specifically designed and hand painted. I managed to divide the height and length of the stage with different devices, providing a view of the outside of the house and conservatory, that indicated the passage of time with changes of lighting.
