The enormous challenge of this show was to create 13 locations, spanning both past and present.
The scene changes needed to be very quick, but neither theatre had any space in the wings or flying bars.
As a reflection of the tendency to remember things from the past in a positive light, all of the scenes set in the past were in full colour.
For those in the present, when the characters are mourning the death of George, greys and blacks were used. Panels behind gauze turned and lit up to indicate the location, while a multi-purpose unit moved back and forth to represent a desk, pier, table and coffin.
